How Does Digital Printing On Natural Fabric Work?

We have developed a specialist printing method that ensures a permanent, fade-resistant print. The water-based inks are infused deep into the fibers of your chosen natural fabric, creating a bold finish. We use eco-friendly inks at Bags of Love, which means you not only look good but feel good too. Every textile has its own unique attributes, including base tone, yarn, and construction. This means that each one prints a little differently. Our expert printers know just how to make your fabric look its best, so you can be assured that your customised natural fabric is in safe hands.

We offer different finishes for your fabric. Depending on how you want to use it, you can select a finish to best suit your needs:

  • As it comes. We roughly cut around your image, leaving a simple scissor cut (perhaps uneven white fabric border).
  • Hem with thread. We can hem your fabric with a choice of black or white thread. Please allow 1-2 days additional production time. See below for information on how hemming affects the size of your print.
  • Cut on the line. We neatly and precisely cut on the edge of your image.

If you decide that you would like us to hem your fabric, then we recommend keeping these measurements in mind and include them in your final dimensions:

  • Light fabrics: we use 6-8mm in the hem (2 fold), so your width/height will be minus 12-16mm
  • Medium fabrics that fray: we use 15-20mm in the hem (2 fold) so your width/height will be minus 35-40mm
  • Stiff/heavy/no-fray fabrics: we use 15-20mm in the hem (1 fold) so width/height will be minus 35-40mm

How To Care For Your Natural Fabrics

Every textile is unique and has its own care instructions. They are a durable bunch who will continue to look like new as long as these instructions are followed. Certain fabrics, such as the real silks, require a bit of extra care and attention. With these, we always recommend using a specialist dry cleaner. Cottons and linens do well with a cool and delicate wash cycle. Please do not wash over 30°c, as this could cause some colour fading. All natural cottons have a degree of shrinkage in the print process. Please accept 2-3 % shrinkage in the X and Y directions. To compensate, we suggest to allow a margin of shrinking in your design. Do this by adding more bleed area in your design. If you are ever in any doubt, please get in touch with us via our online chat and we will be happy to help you further.

What Can I Make With My Natural Fabrics?

There is so much you can make when you design your own natural fiber fabrics. The soft and breathable nature of these textiles just adds to their plethora of benefits. For dressmaking, real silk makes an elegant and luxurious choice. Think of the flowing drape and the stunning, smooth face that will feel cool and crisp against your skin. For a more rustic and vintage style dress, the organic half-panama makes a fun choice. The flecks of cotton seeds visible throughout the yarns adds to the authenticity of this charming material. The linens make great suit fabric options for the summer, thanks to their cool, breathable and moisture-wicking qualities. There are just so many options, you won't know where to begin. Enjoy your creative journey.
