What are Craft Fabrics?

Craft is either a pastime or a profession. It requires a particular skill set and historically referred to small-scale production of goods. Between 1880 and 1920 the Arts and Crafts movement swept the nation, and then flourished in Europe and North America, emerging in Japan in the 20s. Standing for craftsmanship in simple forms, decorative and fine arts. This movement was the birth of arts and crafts as we know it today.

How we make it

Craft fabrics, printed to order every time

All of our craft fabrics are made by hand in our London facility. Our printing technicians will print your custom design onto the fabric using top of the range digital printing techniques. This will bond the eco-inks to the fabric, resulting in an amazing quality, full-colour arts and crafts fabric. Once printed, one of our craftsmen will cut your personalised crafting fabric down to your specified bespoke size. Depending on the option that you choose, this will then be passed on to be finished or, sent out to you.

Please note that due to the nature of Cotton Linen, along with our processing methods, small white dots may occur. This is where fluff has lifted revealing the white base material. This is completely normal and cannot be avoided.

Special considerations

Depending on the fabric that you choose there will be a number of things to take into account. If there are any specific considerations for a particular material, it will be outlined on the page for that distinct textile. Whichever arts and crafts fabric you choose, you should contemplate the type of finishing you would like. You can choose to have your personalised material sent as is. This will be exactly as it comes from the printer, loosely cut around the edges, with a bit of white around the border, so that you can cut down when you receive it. You can have your printed arts and crafts fabric cut on the line; this will remove all of the white edges leaving you with a cut pattern. If you would prefer you can opt to have your craft fabrics hemmed by one of our expert seamstresses. Depending on the material you will have the option of either a folded hem with a straight stitch or an overlocked hem. If one of these types of hem is not suitable, then our smart online design tool will not offer you the option.
